Daniel St. John

Protect your aviation assets – “A technical evaluation is worth its weight in gold."

Mr. Daniel St.John is a co-founder and Vice President of Aviation Technical Management Services, Inc. (ATMS). With over 30 years of aviation experience he has served in numerous capacities in the industry.

Prior to forming ATMS with Raymond Harting, Mr. St John was the Vice President of Aviation Management Systems, Inc. His vast experience in business aviation provides him with a solid foundation for offering clients the necessary knowledge and experience needed to cope with today’s ever-changing business aviation market place.

Mr. St.John’s aviation career began in 1976 with the U.S. Army. After completing his technical training, with a focus on helicopters, he was assigned to shop and overhaul maintenance on military versions of the Bell 206, Bell 205, Hughes 500, and Boeing Chinook. He was later stationed in South Korea and served as a Crew Chief in an “Aviation Squadron.” During this period he gained significant technical and operational experience and was able to log 350 hours of flight time in a Bell 206. He was directly responsible for managing and maintaining the squadron’s fleet of eight helicopters. After the completion of his active duty tour his efforts focused on obtaining his FAA certifications.

In August of 1979, Mr. St.John accepted a position with Petroleum Helicopter, Inc. (PHI). He was involved in routine and major/heavy scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events. During this time Mr. St.John was exposed to a variety of new helicopters types, including the MBB 105, Eurocopter AS350, AS355, AS330/332 series, and Bell 212 series. He was later transferred to field operations, where his activities focused on day-to-day operations and trouble shooting. He ultimately advanced to a supervisory position and when PHI launched their Sikorsky S-76 program, he was among the first technicians to attend Sikorksy’s initial maintenance training.

In 1984 Mr. St.John ventured into the “Corporate Aviation World” when he joined Aetna’s corporate flight department. During the next ten years he served in various capacities including line mechanic, crew chief, shift supervisor, inspector, and avionics technician. The Aetna fleet consisted of a variety of corporate jets and helicopters. This opportunity served to broaden his knowledge base and provided him with a background in aircraft acquisitions, design and specifications, completion management, and aircraft delivery.

In 1994, Mr. St.John accepted a position as Director of Maintenance for a corporate flight department. During this time the company owned and operated an S-76 helicopter, Beech King Air, Lockheed Jetstars, Dassault Falconjets, and a Boeing 727. As the company’s need for business aviation subsided, Mr. St.John opted to pursue a career in aviation consulting.

Rated as an Airframe and Powerplant Technician, Mr. St.John’s extensive experience and background in helicopter, medium and heavy aircraft maintenance, management, and corporate flight operations, provides him with a unique and broad understanding of the business and commercial aviation industry.
